Roxy: The Official Winery Dog of Fantesca
Roxy, our Flat Coated Retriever, happily fulfills the role of Official Greeter at Fantesca Estate & Winery, and she carries on her duties with great enthusiasm. Roxy knows what she's good at, and she therefore has delegated the role of Security Officer to others in the Menagerie, mainly Max, our 14-year-old cat, who has the claws and temperament for the job.
Roxy has a trained nose for pheasants but has modified her hunting skills at our Napa Valley winery to become quite exceptional at jumping into bushes and finding lizards. While not a terribly useful skill, she seems to find these forays endlessly self-entertaining.
Being a black, long-haired dog in the heat of summer might slow down your average winery dog, but not so with Roxy: she simply jumps into the nearest fountain/pool/water hose and cools off. She also is fond of plopping her long body down on the cool concrete of the winery and cave floors to get some relief. Some days can be more trying than others, to be sure. But one look at Roxy can brighten everything! It is hard to be unhappy for long around such a happy dog.
